"A little farther afield, or ashore, we reach CAPE COD (Houghton Mifflin, 255 pages, $35), with photographs by Scot Miller. Unlike most coffee-table books, the text dominates here — but the words are by Henry David Thoreau, so there’s no cause for complaint. In bringing out an illustrated edition of Thoreau’s 1865 classic, the editors have, perhaps inadvertently, set up a competition: Can the writer or the photographer make us see the Cape more vividly? Miller is up to the challenge. The winner is the reader."

Scot Miller invited to speak at the Concord Festival of Authors

The 16th annual Concord Festival of Authors opens on Wednesday, October 15th, and runs through Sunday, November 2nd. The festival features over 40 participating authors with programs nearly every day or evening. Now in its 16th year, the Concord Festival of Authors is the preeminent annual literary event in the Boston area. Programs are held in several venues in Concord, a town that revels in his historic and literary heritage, and in Lowell, a city whose history and diversity are the source of its vitality.
